Morning Sunshine!!
We are so grateful to join you on this adventure into a new and inclusive salon experience. Our stylists are hard at work learning and growing more than just our hair skills. As the first salon in the area, possibly anywhere, catering to neurodiverse folks we are very aware how hard this may be for some of you. Please know this is a learning experience for us as well.
Retro Redhead is committed to providing a safer space for people who have felt like they never really fit in. Maybe you were the “weird” one, the quiet one who was scared to use their voice, or perhaps you just believe in love, kindness and a hippy/happy asshole free lifestyle. Regardless of the reason we’re glad you’re here.
We offer sensory accomodations for our friends who need (or even just want) them. Andrea Van Der Merwe (future MSW) will be providing training to all Retro Redhead staff so we can provide a safer space for trauma survivors, recently housed friends, and newly sober folks.
Even with all this, sometimes we (usually Sam) say the wrong things at the wrong time. What makes us different is we WANT your feedback, we want to know, we want to grow our knowledge. This goes beyond DEI, beyond inclusivity. It’s a choice! We choose to be better humans. If there is anything you would love to see included on our list of accomodations or even something you feel may help others feel at ease PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reach out and let us know.
Thank you so much for choosing to join us on our journey into uncharted waters.
MUCH LOVE
RETRO REDHEAD

Born with an uncanny ability to put people at ease I have spent the last two years curating a safer space where anyone can feel welcomed (unless you’re judgy and grumpy. If this is you we may not be the best fit). I have the energy of a teenager and the maturity to match. I find humour and beauty in absolutely everything.
Being diagnosed ADHD later in life means I understand all the hardships you may have experienced. I too have struggled with reading between the lines, understanding social cues, etc. This also means I am able to hyperfocus and get bored easily.
Well the world of hair is full of nuerospicy folks for this reason. I taught hair colour for over a decade in Southwestern Ontario when boredom kicked in I dove into precision hair cutting working and training with some of the best cutters in the industry. While doing my deep dive into cutting I realized that curl training was almost non existent and sought out all of the education I could a)afford b)find. My most recent trip was to New York for some curl training.
I LOVE HAIR! I LIVE AND BREATHE THIS ISSHHH
This is my superpower as a stylist. I have all the tools in my tool box. I ask questions if I don’t understand, I tell you when I don’t think things will suit you (with tact obviously), I work with you to kraft the perfect look for your hair, lifestyle and lets face it ability to style your own hair. And lack of social cues means I just don’t get offended so we can have open communication regarding your hair goals.

Moira is a seasoned stylist with a passion for all things blonde and beautiful. Her journey has been filled with intensive training in Mazella and Palmer cutting classes, followed by immersions in the art of cutting under the guidance of industry-renowned experts like Matthew Collins. Meaning she can do more than just knock your socks off when it comes to blonding.i
Lets be real, I can ramble on about all of her training but, we all know the reason you are looking into Retro Redhead. WE ARE NOT YOUR AVERAGE SALON!
And Moira is not your average stylist.
Bad ass blondes are her claim to fame but around here she is known for being the studios chatterbox. You definitely know when she is here. Laughter is heard throughout the studio from the time she walks through the door. (Probably because it is the only adult conversation she has most of the week.) When she’s not parenting you can find this babe sitting with a glass of wine watching the latest episode of Love is Blind or …..actually I have no idea what else she does probably reading a book or doing something boring to further her already amazing knowledge of hair.
If you are one of our nuerospicy folks who doesn’t love the chatter just bring a laptop select the “silent appointment” option and pop in a movie or tv show while she works her magic on your hair. Sometimes we all love a lil downtime and Moira is no exception.
Rest assured you will leave her chair more confident than you were when you arrived. With over a decade of experience Moira knows her shit. She is always learning and in turn creating the most amazing results so you can hold your head high.

I think emotional support dogs are a necessity for some. Well who knew they needed emotional support humans?
Ben can be found most summer days slathered in sunblock catching rays on the deck. When this old man has had enough of napping in the sun he will most likely try to find a spot on a soft bed, couch, blanket or lap somewhere. At more than 10 years of age his favourite past times include getting pets and emotional support from Salon clients, trying to find your baby so he can be sure they are safely nestled in their car seat while you are getting you hair done or aimlessly pacing back and forth contemplating what to do in order to receive MORE emotional support.

Meet the OG. Many of you have thought that she was new girl but I’ve had this girl for years. She has my heart. Ridiculously food motivated yet allergic to everything you will find this old lady either running scared from anyone who looks at her sideways or the exact opposite and staring into the depths of your soul enticing love and affection from you. If you see her (or hear) her saying hello just keep talking to her she loves life but if you move too quickly she will run in fear.
